The Bundesnetzagentur (BNetzA), Germany’s Federal Network Agency for Electricity, Gas, Telecommunications, Post and Railway, is a separate higher federal authority within the scope of business of the Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Action, and has its headquarters in Bonn. It also acts as the root certification authority under the Electronic Signatures Act.
Since 2011, BNetzA has taken on additional duties relating to the Network Development Plan. Where this indicates a need for expansion on the extra-high voltage level, BNetzA ensures accelerated implementation via efficient planning and approval procedures.
