Assistant General Counsel, Director of Legal, External & Corporate Affairs Spanish South America, Microsoft

Deputy General Counsel and Director of Corporate and External Relations at Microsoft for Spanish-speaking Latin America. Prior to his current position, he served as Director of Legal, Corporate, and External Affairs at Microsoft for South America. He also served as Director of Intellectual Property and Digital Security Affairs at Microsoft for the Americas region, where he led the company’s strategy to protect its intellectual property and improve cloud security by reducing digital risks caused by cybercrime. He was the Legal Director of Intellectual Property Affairs at Microsoft Mexico. He previously held the same position for the Andean region (Colombia, Peru, Ecuador, and Venezuela). In the public sector, Andrés represented the Colombian government as a negotiator in several multilateral treaties, as Legal Director of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, and, at one time, as Legal Director of the Colombian Agricultural Institute. Andrés has been a speaker on Artificial Intelligence, security, innovation, and intellectual property at various forums and universities throughout the region. He is a full professor in the Master’s Program in New Technologies at the Externado University of Colombia. Andrés holds a master’s degree in law with a concentration in new technologies and intellectual property from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana and received his law degree from the Externado University in Colombia, where he also completed specialized studies in economics and e-commerce.
