Director, Luxembourg Independent Media Authority (ALIA)

Cindy Bauwens is the Director of ALIA, Luxembourg’s independent audiovisual authority. She oversees ALIA’s mandate to ensure compliance with the Audiovisual Media Services Directive (AVMSD) for television, on-demand services and video-sharing platforms, while also supervising radio services that fall under ALIA’s broader regulatory scope. Her work also includes overseeing public media coverage of election campaigns, monitoring film classification in cinemas and promoting media literacy.

Prior to joining ALIA, Cindy held senior legal positions at the Ministry of the Economy, where she specialised in EU internal market regulation, legislative drafting and compliance. She also managed SOLVIT Luxembourg, which resolves cross-border disputes between businesses or citizens and public authorities regarding the application of EU internal market rules. Cindy previously worked in EU trade and internal market policy in Sweden.

She holds a Master’s degree in European Law from the Université Libre de Bruxelles, a Swedish law degree (Juristexamen) from Stockholm University and was originally trained in French law at the Université de Poitiers.
