Deryhan Muñoz Barquero

Deryhan Muñoz Barquero is the Director of Competition at the Superintendence of Telecommunications (SUTEL). She has held previous positions at SUTEL as a Regulation Specialist in the General Directorate of Markets. She is a former market analyst in the coffee sector.

As part of her professional experience, Mrs Muñoz  was actively engaged in the process of discussion and approval of the current competition law, Law for the Strengthening of the Competition Authorities of Costa Rica No. 9736. Mrs Muñoz has also had active participation in the accession process of Costa Rica to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), regarding competition matters.  She also successfully supported the internal restructuring process carried out by Sutel for the implementation of Law No. 9736, as well as an ambitious roadmap to develop new regulatory instruments to enforce the competition law in the telecom sector.

Mrs Muñoz holds a degree, M.S. in Economics and a Specialization in Competition from the University of Costa Rica (UCR). She also holds studies in Telecommunications Law from the University of Valladolid in Spain and Competition Law from the Ulead University in Costa Rica.
