Hopeton S. Dunn is Professor of Communications Policy and Digital Media at the University of Botswana. He is also non-resident Senior Research Associate at the School of Communication, University of Johannesburg, South Africa. Professor Dunn served for a decade as Chairman of the regulatory Broadcasting Commission of Jamaica, and was the inaugural Chairman of the Jamaica Telecommunications Advisory Council (JTAC).
He is the immediate past Director of the Caribbean School of Media and Communication (CARIMAC), University of the West Indies (UWI) Mona Campus, where he also headed the Mona ICT Policy Centre (MICT). His research interests include: AI and technology transitions; broadcasting policy and regulation; media and information literacy, digital access and inclusion, and telecommunications policy reforms.
Professor Dunn is a former Secretary General of the International Association for Media and Communication Research, IAMCR. His most recent co-edited volume, titled The Palgrave Handbook of Everyday Digital Life was published in February 2024. His previous co-edited book, published in 2021 is titled: Re-imagining Communication in Africa and the Caribbean: Global South Issues in Media, Culture and Technology.
