Head of Policy Development Department, Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC)

Irma Syafrida is currently the Head of the Policy Development Department at the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), leading the formulation of strategic policies in emerging regulatory domains, including online safety, digital content governance, and emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT).

With more than 20 years of experience in the communications and multimedia (C&M) industry (TM Touch, Celcom, Edotco and Pos Malaysia), Irma has held various roles involving regulatory affairs, legal advisory, and policy development, notably in infrastructure regulation, licensing, universal service provision, and industry engagement. She has played an active role in national-level projects such as the National 5G Task Force and various Universal Service Provision (USP) programmes and has contributed to public inquiries, policy papers, and technical code development under MCMC.

Irma’s expertise covers regulatory frameworks, policy analysis, legal drafting, stakeholder engagement, and implementation of regulatory instruments for the digital ecosystem. She is passionate about fostering responsible and forward-looking policies to ensure public interest, safety, and industry growth in the evolving C&M landscape.
