Krzysztof Kuik

Head of Unit, State aid (COMP.C.4), DG Competition, European Commission

Krzysztof Kuik is the head of unit responsible for State aid control in telecoms, media and internet, where he scrutinizes the rollout of broadband networks across Europe and its compliance with the EU’s State aid rules. He joined the European Commission in 2009 and, as a head of unit responsible for antitrust enforcement in the areas of media and sport, oversaw several landmark investigations into the contracts between Hollywood studios and pay-TV broadcaster Sky, the International Skating Union’s rules, Nike’s practices for merchandising products and Amazon’s contracts with e-book publishers.

Prior to joining the European Commission, Mr Kuik worked as a private practitioner in the Brussels, Warsaw and New York offices of White & Case.

He obtained a law degree from the University of Warsaw, and LLM degrees from KU Leuven and NYU School of Law.

Mr Kuik is a frequent speaker on competition law and media, and a co-author of a chapter on Media in Faull & Nikpay’s The EU Law of Competition (2014).
