Madeleine de Cock Buning

Professor Madeleine de Cock Buning combines her career as a Professor of Media and Communications Law with the Board Membership (chair) of the Regulatory Authority to the Media. She is also part-time Professor at the EUI’s School of Transnational Governance. In this role, she leads work on Digital Politics, Economy and Societies. She has ample experience in the field of EU media law and policy, also in her capacity as Chair of the European Regulators Group for Audiovisual Media Services (ERGA). In 2018 she was Chair of the European Commission’s High-Level Expert Group (HLEG) on fake news and disinformation, assigned to provide the Commission with options on how to react to the dissemination of fake news both online and offline.

Honorary positions held by Professor de Cock Buning are Honorary Judge of the Court of Appeal The Hague and Chair of the Advisory Committee on Copyright to the Dutch Ministry of Security and Justice.

Professor de Cock Buning started her career as an attorney-at-law at leading Dutch law firm De Brauw Blackstone Westbroek.
