Marcelo Benítez, a Paraguayan national, has extensive experience in the evolution of the telecommunications and technology sectors and a deep understanding of the Latin American region, having held senior positions in the commercial sector, customer service, B2B, marketing and sales in Africa and Latin America.

Mr Benítez began his career at Millicom in 1997 as a Customer Service representative at Tigo Paraguay, quickly rising to the role of Operational Controller. He had responsibility for the technical and commercial execution of the GSM network, supporting the implementation of the Tigo brand for the first time in Latin America.

In 2004, Mr Benítez moved to Tigo Guatemala where he served as VAS Cluster Manager for Central America and Colombia. He then became Manager of Value Added Services at a Global level, being responsible for the implementation of the first and most successful mobile finance services in Latin America. Mr Benítez also served as General Manager of the Tigo El Salvador operation before becoming B2B Vice President, a position he held for 3 years during which he launched the Tigo Business brand in Latin America.

Before his appointment at Tigo Panama he spent 8 years in the corporate offices of Millicom, with a solid focus on growth in the Central American region.
