Than Htun Aung is the Deputy Director General of Posts and Telecommunications Department, the communications regulator of Myanmar. Having joined the Department since 2002, he has over 20 years of experience in the communications and ICT regulatory field. He was involved in the liberalization of the telecoms sector in 2013 which resulted in the significant development of the sector from a teledensity of a mere 5% point to over 95% within five years. He has represented Myanmar in international fora including ASEAN, ITU, APT, UPU and APPU as well as in major negotiations like RCEP, AANZFTA and AFTA. Mr Aung is also a member of the Myanmar Competition Commission – MCC, the national competition regulatory body.
