Social network will restore news pages after amendments to media bill
An agreement has been reached between Facebook and the Australian government over changes to the proposed media bargaining code, reports Reuters. The deal means that Facebook will begin restoring news pages taken down in response to the original draft of the code. The changes centre on taking account of existing media arrangements, and giving parties more time to reach a private deal. Facebook commented that ‘the government has clarified that we will retain the ability to decide if news appears on Facebook so that we won’t automatically be subject to a forced negotiation’. Australian news organisations, as well as Google, are said to broadly welcome the agreement.
