Conspiracy theories suspected of fuelling mast attacks

The trade group Mobile UK said twenty phone masts were attacked over the Easter weekend, reports the BBC. Arson attacks on masts had taken place before the coronavirus pandemic, but there are concerns that vandalism is being encouraged by conspiracy theories claiming 5G networks have helped to accelerate the spread of the virus. There have also been altercations between members of the public and telecoms engineers, with recordings of the encounters appearing on social media. Attacks on masts have also been recorded in Ireland and the Netherlands, says the website. Learn more
