CULTURE AND CONTENT

Audiovisual content is not only an industry; it is also a fundamental element of a society that shares core common values defined as cultural identity. What Europe lacked in the past –and perhaps still lacks today – is the sense of belonging to a single community and
a belief in common ideas and values. To encourage such a sense of identity is an ambitious and vital task but also one which is complex and difficult to achieve in a Europe based on cultural and linguistic diversity. Audiovisual media services such as films and television series can play a relevant role in the scope of this ambition. Conversely, in a time of profound change in society driven by the digital revolution, it can endanger it. Globalisation and digital transformation could bring cultural standardisation and a lack of diversity.
